Teams Paddleboarding and Fundraising Event proudly presented by Starboard
@ City Surf , Thursdays | Okahu & Mission Bay
Starts 10 Nov 2016 | 6.15pm
This summer Paddle For Hope has teamed up with NZ’s biggest weekly SUP event, CITY SURF, to boost the awesome health and wellness benefits you get from paddling with a little feel-good fundraising.
Ideal for newbies, friends sharing a board, families, school or work teams. The Paddle For Hope Team SUP Relay event is a social paddling event, designed for participants who are completely new to SUP and want to have a go in a fun, social, team environment.
There must be four people in a team, with at least one female per team.
For a little extra motivation to help get your team to the start line each week, ask your friends and family to sponsor your teams efforts and fundraise on our Paddle For Hope Give-a-Little page
Paddle For Hope has teamed up with three really worthy causes this year:
- PaddleOn - the SUP Cancer Rehabilitation Program by PINC & STEEL
- SeaCleaners - removing trash from the ocean & asking us to do our bit "one piece a day"
- The WELLer Network - breast cancer prevention education

What time will the relay start and how long will it take?
6.30pm. Your team should take less than an hour to complete the course. All team members must be present ideally for the 615pm briefing or 625pm at your start line. Teams with less than 4 team members present at 625pm will be ineligible for points for this week.

Do we need our own boards and paddles?
Only one board is required per team. We can provide a stable board and adjustable paddle for your team to use each week, or if you enter as a "VIP team" your very own pink Paddle For Hope board and paddle is provided for your team to keep. Each team member is to compete on the same team board but each team member can have their own paddle.
How many people can I have on my team?
You can register up to six people, but only four will need to paddle each week. If a team has only three members present on any given event day, one team member may do two laps so the team can take part but team points will not be counted for this event. You can bring new people to fill-in if a team member is away. (A great way for your business or school to be involved as a corporate wellness activity, as different staff members can paddle each week)
How does the relay work?
Each team member is to complete 1x lap (approx 700m) with the final team member to run over the finish line upon team completion. Each team receives 1x electronic timing chip which will be the team 'baton' to hand over at conclusion of each lap.
What should we wear?
You will be provided with a City Surf Hi Vis Race Vest to wear over your paddling clothes, but we do encourage you to work out a fun pink team uniform to wear each week. You can print the race vest with your team name or company logo. Most people wear boardshorts or leggings, and a quickdry sports top or lycra, but pink tutus, angel wings, hula skirts and other pink costumes are also popular. There will be prizes for the best-dressed teams!
What if I don't have a team?
If you would like to take part but can't find anyone to paddle with, please get in touch with Karin. She has spots on her team reserved especially for newcomers, and will provide a safe and friendly introduction to Paddle For Hope.
I'm not a competitive racer - is this event too serious for me?
We have designed the teams relay to be a fun, short and manageable event for people of all ages and abilities. Grandmas and little kids do it. People who have had cancer do it. People who have never even stood on a paddleboard before do it. Think of it as a commitment to yourself and your friends to just show up and paddle each week, get some fresh air and exercise, and enjoy the company of like-minded people on the sparkling waters of our city beaches. You might just surprise yourself how much you enjoy it!
